Jurisdiction Overview

IDQuestionAnswer
415 *LEI: Is the use of an annually updated Legal Entity Identifier (LEI, developed under the guidance of the Financial Stability Board, FSB) mandatory for some financial market operators and/or asset classes? No.
 Data Date: 2019

Notes

According to Taiwan's Financial Supervisory Commission, Securities and Futures Bureau, the use of an annually updated LEI is not mandatory for all financial institutions (TJN-Survey 2019). However, Taiwan's authorities emphasised that "Despite the use of an annually updated LEI is not mandatory for financial institutions in Taiwan, we have incorporated LEI codes into our Financial Derivative Trade Database since 2018 and encouraged financial institutions to apply for an LEI code and adopt the code in financial transactions, which helps measure and manage counterparty exposure and systematic risk more effectively." (Correspondence from 6.1.2020 with Taiwan's Securities and Futures -Bureau Financial Supervisory Commission).
