Antigua and Barbuda (AG)

Jurisdiction Overview

IDQuestionAnswer
437 *Is legal ownership information of real estate available on public online record (up to 10 EUR/GBP/USD)? No, information on legal owners is not always available online (up to 10 EUR/GBP/USD).
 Data Date: 2019

Notes

While the jurisdiction operates a central registry for domestic real estate, registry data is not effectively available online as of September 2019. (see above)

Today, A&B does not have an operational public online record where legal ownership information is available. There is an ongoing project (outsourced to Trimble) seeking to make land and commercial records available to the public, but the websites are not yet functional. However, A&B law allows " any person, on application in the prescribed form and on payment of the prescribed fee, may inspect during official hours of business any register and any sheet of the Registry Map or any filed instrument or plan." Also upon application and payment of a fee, "any person" can request copies of such registered documents. However, application forms and fees are not available online.

It is worth noting that many aspects of A&B registry laws enable processes which could enable inacurate or incomplete ownership information to be entered in the register. (examples on file)
